About me

Meet Dr.(PhD) Derya Durmaz

I am working with an amazing team and they are great professionals in their areas. As the lead of the team let me introduce myself:

I am a psychological counsellor, child development specialist, cognitive neuro psychologist, and educator with a deep passion for supporting children, young people, and adults through a holistic, science-based, and compassionate approach. My work combines psychology, education, and neuroscience to promote emotional balance, cognitive growth, and lifelong well-being.

I am bilingual in Turkish and English, and my academic and professional qualifications have been gained and practised in both languages. This allows me to provide culturally sensitive and inclusive support for families and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

I hold a BA in Psychological Counselling and an MA in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Leeds, specialising in Special Educational Needs, and a PhD in Early Childhood Education from the University of Warwick, focusing on the English education system.

Over the years, I have expanded my professional expertise through a Child Psychology Diploma, Childcare and Education Certificate, Sensory Integration Certificate, and Floortime Advanced Level training. I am currently completing a second master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology, exploring how the brain influences learning, behaviour, and emotional development.

I also hold an Advanced Level Safeguarding certificate and a current DBS check, ensuring that my practice meets the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Recently, I obtained a Neurofeedback Certificate and now focus on Neurofeedback therapy to help ease symptoms of ADHD (including hyperactivity and attention difficulties), OCD, exam anxiety, insomnia and sleep disorders, and brain fog, particularly in women during and after menopause.

My approach is multidisciplinary and person-centred — I consider the emotional, sensory, cognitive, and behavioural aspects of each individual. I believe every child and adult deserves to be understood and supported in a way that reflects their unique strengths and needs.

Whether you’re a parent seeking ADHD or behavioural support, an educator looking for collaboration, or an adult aiming to improve focus, sleep, or emotional well-being, I offer evidence-based and empathetic guidance tailored to you.

My Therapeutic Approach

My work is grounded in a humanistic and strengths-based philosophy, placing empathy, authenticity, and the therapeutic relationship at the centre of the process. I believe that each individual has an innate capacity for growth and change, and I aim to create a safe, respectful, and non-judgemental space where clients feel truly heard, valued, and understood. By focusing on self-worth, resilience, and each person’s unique strengths, I support clients to develop greater self-awareness, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
Alongside this core approach, I work in an integrative and evidence-based way, drawing on psychology, neuroscience, and education to provide personalised support. I recognise that every individual’s development and experiences are unique, and I consider the whole person — emotionally, cognitively, socially, and physically — when tailoring therapeutic work.

With a background in psychological counselling, early childhood education, and cognitive neuroscience, I take a collaborative, child- and family-centred approach where appropriate. I work with parents, carers, educators, and other professionals to build a full understanding of each individual’s strengths, needs, and environment, supporting consistent and meaningful outcomes.
I integrate a range of approaches to complement this humanistic foundation, including:
  • Developmental and Cognitive Psychology – to guide understanding of emotional and cognitive development across the lifespan.
  • Sensory Integration and DIR/Floortime® – using play-based and sensory-informed methods to support regulation, communication, and relationships.
  • Neurofeedback Therapy – a brain-based approach that can support attention, self-regulation, anxiety, and sleep.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults, supporting a range of needs including emotional wellbeing, anxiety, attention and focus difficulties, and developmental differences. My aim is to empower each individual to build insight, strengthen their sense of self, and move towards meaningful and lasting growth.
